This upscaler enlarges an image and invents fine detail to match it. On price tags it drew strokes that were not there, so digit shapes drifted and OCR got worse.
For engineers: diffusion upscaler with ControlNet conditioning; hallucinates strokes on small text, which degrades OCR.
