Vultr Digital Start-up Program
- High-value
The offer
- Up to $100,000 in cloud credits plus a 35% long-term discount for funded startups, across Cloud Compute, Bare Metal, Kubernetes, storage, and Cloud GPU (NVIDIA), in 32+ regions
- Executive sponsorship, architecture reviews, and a dedicated account manager
- For everyone else, "Vultr Match": a new user deposits $10-$100 and Vultr matches it (e.g. deposit $100, get $100), up to a 100% match
- Match credit expires 12 months after issuance and is consumed 50/50 with real funds (every $1 of usage burns $0.50 promo and $0.50 cash)
Who qualifies
- The $100,000 program requires recent Series A, B, C, D, or E financing
- Applicants share their senior-most technical contact and the last 6 months of cloud invoices, and agree to be publicly referenceable
- Vultr Match is open to any new user, but you must deposit your own money to get the match. It is not free credit
- There is no large no-strings free trial: bootstrapped founders get only the deposit-match (max ~$100 bonus)
Community Insights
Developers like Vultr as a price-competitive DigitalOcean alternative with more datacenter locations and BYO-ISO flexibility. It comes up repeatedly as “really damn cheap” and a sensible smaller VPS-focused host versus the hyperscalers. The caveats are operational, not financial: shared datacenter IP ranges get a “trashed reputation” and are first to be blocked by bot filters, outbound port 25 is blocked by default until you open a ticket, and at real scale some users find owning hardware cheaper than renting. The free-credit landscape is also polluted by fake coupon sites, so rely only on the official Match and program pages.
Best Practices (from community tips)
- If you’re funded (Series A+), apply with your last 6 months of invoices. The 35% long-term discount can outweigh the one-time credits.
- If you’re bootstrapped, treat Vultr as cheap pay-as-you-go. The Match only stretches your first ~$100 of real spend, consumed 50/50.
- Open a support ticket early to unblock SMTP port 25 and raise the default instance cap before you need them.
- Ignore “$250 / $300 free credit” coupon sites. Verify any promo on Vultr’s own Match or coupons pages. Promo credit expires in 12 months.
- Use BYO-ISO or custom images and the broad region list. This is a frequent reason developers pick Vultr over DigitalOcean.
- Check IP reputation for email or outbound-heavy workloads, since datacenter ranges are commonly filtered.
