The offer

  • Video infrastructure for apps (VOD + live via one API: encoding, storage, playback, the open-source Mux Player, AI workflows, and Mux Data analytics)
  • $500 in credits to start; "depending on your investors, you may be eligible for more" (qualifying startups may also get a product consult with a Mux co-founder). Credits must be used within 1 year
  • Separate "Powered by Mux" offer: up to $1,000/month in credits if you make developer-education content (docs/courses/tutorials) and show the "Powered by Mux" badge

Who qualifies

  • Startups using video in-product; offer is for NEW customers only: you must not be an existing Mux customer and must be a first-time recipient of Mux credits
  • Apply via the form (manual review); larger credit packs may be available depending on your investors / accelerator

Community Insights

Mux is a developer-experience leader in video infrastructure: clean API, the open-source Mux Player, AI workflows (captions/chapters/translation) and built-in QoE analytics. It is the default modern alternative teams reach for when leaving Vimeo. The trade-off is cost: comparisons consistently put Mux at a premium (often several times Cloudflare Stream/Bunny for plain VOD), so it is worth it mainly once analytics, live, and reliability/SLAs matter. Also note it is managed-cloud only (no self-hosting), and the startup credit is new-customers-only.

Best Practices (from community tips)

  • Use Mux when DX, live, and analytics matter. For simple upload-and-play VOD, cheaper options (Cloudflare Stream, Bunny) may win.
  • Apply as a new customer. The $500 (and larger investor-linked packs) is new-customers-only, first-time-credits-only, and credits expire in 1 year.
  • If you publish dev-education content, stack “Powered by Mux” for up to $1,000/month in credits.
  • Model cost at scale early (encoding + delivery + Data) so the bill doesn’t surprise you once credits run out.
